What we do

We distribute electrical energy and natural gas to all our customers thanks to the use of new technologies

Households, small firms but also major industrial facilities: every day, through our networks, we distribute energy and gas, offering a service characterized by the important technological evolutions that we put into practice.

The distribution, regulated by the ARERA (Autorità di Regolazione per Energia Reti e Ambiente) authority, in full compliance with Italian law, is a public service delivered in line with criteria of neutrality and transparency towards the sellers, but also of efficiency in the service’s management. The aim is to keep distribution costs and charges down for consumers while maintaining high standards of service quality and safety.

Unareti S.p.A.

The single company for our Group’s network services

With Unareti we distribute electricity and gas throughout the Milan and Brescia areas. Over the next few years, we will be undertaking a major project for the replacement of our customers’ electricity meters. This will enable us to optimize the management of our networks and to provide people with a tool which will help them to better understand their electricity consumption and to make informed decisions about their supply.

LD Reti

Integrated management of gas and electricity distribution activities

LD Reti is the company in our Group responsible for the distribution and measurement of natural gas in 90 municipalities in the provinces of Brescia, Pavia, Cremona and Lodi. It also handles the distribution and measurement of electricity in the municipality of Cremona.

Investments and strategy

We are accelerating our work towards greater energy efficiency and the electrification of consumption

As regards the evolution of electricity distribution infrastructures, we have set out a series of projects aimed at furthering the electrification of consumption, fostering greater use of e-transport and improving service quality. The main work will involve the installation of new smart meters, the building of a series of primary and secondary substations and the safety of distribution plant, thus reducing the risk of methane dispersion into the atmosphere.

Smart meters

By 2024, Unareti foresees the replacement of over 1 million first-generation meters with 2G meters while LD Reti will replace 45,000.

Network development

For Unareti, in the municipality of Milan, we will be installing 10 new primary substations and, in the Brescia area, six new primary and around 1,000 new secondary substations. For LD Reti, by 2024, we plan to build a second primary substation and new secondary substations for our customers in Cremona.

Network safety and dispersion reduction

For Unareti, on the gas network, we will replace hundreds of kilometres of underground main pipelines and user connections, enabling the introduction of sustainable gas into the networks. On the electricity network, we foresee a rationalization of the existing grid for the municipality of Milan and the replacement of hundreds of kilometres of cables in order to increase resilience and to support the electrification of consumption planned over the next few years.
For LD Reti, by the end of 2023, we will replace almost all gas meters with new ones with a remote management capability.
