What we do

Water pipelines, sewage systems and treatment plants: we distribute water in the Brescia area

Every day, we supply clean water to people’s homes, guaranteeing the management of the entire cycle: catchment, distribution, collection of wastewater and purification. Our production sources are made up of 185 wells and 174 sources and springs, thanks to which we are able to deliver a total of around 45 million m3 a year through a pipeline network of 3,613 km.

In particular, we deliver an integrated water cycle service in the municipality of Brescia and in much of the surrounding province, managing the area’s sewage system, made up of 2,340 km of network and 282 pump stations, its purification system, with 51 purification plants, of which the main wastewater treatment facility is located at Verziano and has a treatment capacity for 296,000 inhabitants.

We invest constantly so as to keep our networks efficient and ensure the continuity and excellence of the service provided. Our century-long experience has helped make us a well-qualified and reliable partner in the eyes of our users, an aspect which we want to consolidate in the years to come, too, by means of a significant investment plan. By 2030, in fact, we will build new sewage and water supply networks which will enable us to cover the entire area that we serve and to improve the service, making it increasingly efficient.

Investments and strategy

Creating virtuous ccyles that enable us to recover water without wastage

Like all other resources, water is not unlimited. It needs to be managed as well as possible and with the right technological solutions, both for the distribution of clean water and for the recovery, pipelining and treatment of wastewater in purification facilities.

We want to ensure a better future for the new generations by using natural resources with respect: for this reason, we have set out an investment plan which will make it possible for us, by 2030, to provide the area where we operate with a highly efficient integrated water cycle, one that is on a par with the best services in Europe.
The aim is to contribute to ending EU violations through the development of a new purification capability and the reduction of water leakage.

In particular, in 2019, we began experimentation of a technology which, by analysing the sound of water loss transmitted by pipelines, enables us to rapidly locate the point of leakage. After having detected the leakage point with sensors and using a special monitoring system, we will be able to take specific action and, where possible, also use technologies which make excavation unnecessary.

Thanks to the use of new technologies, we will apply the principles of the circular economy that allow us to avoid wastage and promote a more sustainable lifestyle, where everything can become a resource again.

Our development areas

Reduction of water losses

Since beginning trials of the technology that analyses the sound transmitted by pipelines, in Brescia we have reduced the percentage of water losses to less than 27% and have repaired over 110 leaks.
We have also continued to extend our monitoring network outside the city of Brescia itself and can currently detect leakages in real time along around 157 km of the network that we manage.

Purification

In order to be able to guarantee an efficient purification service for the population that we serve by 2030, we are continuing to open work sites and start projects to modernize our infrastructures and create new plants, with increasingly efficient purifiers but also with technologies designed to reduce energy consumption, sludge production and our carbon footprint. All of our action moves increasingly in the direction of the ecological transition and of the protection of the environment.
